Holidays in Villandro in Valle Isarco
VillandroThe pretty holiday village Villandro (Villanders) lies at a height of 880 m above sea level, on a very sunny hillside surrounded by orchards and mountain pastures. The historical roots of Villandro date back far, many remnants of old earth embankments and bulwarks, as also findings of the early-Stone Age and Roman Era are proof of a prehistoric settlement. Since the early-Middle Ages silver, copper and lead ore were mined in the mine of Fundres. Today the area is an interesting treasure trove for mineral collectors. A typical feature of the village are the two slender Gothic church spires and the stately houses in the old village lanes. The castles Graveccio and Gernstein are culturally interesting. Hiking trails go up to the Alpe di Villandro high plateau, from here you have a breathtaking view over the Dolomites. The area also offers well marked hiking trails, cross country skiing runs and many refuges for recreation with food and drink. |
