Alta Pusteria
Holidays in the Valle di Braies valley
Valle di Braies valleyThe picturesque Valle di Braies valley (Pragser Tal) is situated at 1.170 m - 1.993 m above sea level and lies between the nature park Fanes-Sennes-Braies and the unique mountains of Braies with their bizarre peaks. With the colourful Lake of Braies (Lago di Braies) and the flowery pastures this valley is one of the highlights of the Val Pusteria valley and leads directly into the world famous Dolomites. In the south-west the Valle di Braies inner valley ends with the Lake of Braies. The rock faces of the surrounding mountains are reflected in the dark water and give the impression of nearly precipitating into the water. Many little steep tracks and paths lead into the nature preserve. As an alternative you can also just relax whilst fishing. The second arm of the Braies valley, the old Braies valley, goes southwards, here you can find the old Braies bath, once a spa hotel. The valley ends with an impressive scenery of ridges and mountain peaks where the Prato Piazza is located, one of the largest high-terraces in the Dolomites, with its characteristic pastures and Swiss stone pines mostly branded by lightning and wind. It is an ideal starting point for mountain hikes to the Picco di Vallandro, to the nature park etc.. |
