Alta Pusteria
Holidays in Villabassa in Val Pusteria
VillabassaVilla Bassa (Niederdorf) lies in the heart of Alta Pusteria at 1.154 m above sea level, embedded in a unique scenery of the Dolomites with vast coniferous forests. Along with the local climate that was already valued around the turn of the 19th century for cure stays, the legendary Mrs. Emma of Villabassa played an important role for the beginning alpine tourism in the vacation area. Together with her husband she founded internationally famous hotels, amongst these, hotels at the Lake of Braies (Lago di Braies), in Merano and in the Val Venosta valley. Today the guest house Emma still exists in Villabassa. This pioneer period of tourism in Alta Pusteria is also documented in the tourism museum Haus Wassermann. Today Villabassa is a modern holiday resort with attractive leisure time facilities. Amongst a natural ice rink and a natural toboggan run the village offers spa gardens with a particular playground: a suspension bridge over the Rienz river leads children into a world of adventure with extraordinary playing facilities. Villabassa offers many destinations and well marked hiking trails for nature lovers. |
